Guide to Prince Of Persia on the PlayStation 3

Prince of Persia is known for the classic PC game but as a new sequel is set to arrive on the PlayStation 3, it looks like fans are getting some real gaming treat. The Prince of Persia has had a wide array of sequels released all throughout the years and they ranged from the fun to the not-so-fun to play. But with Prince of Persia for the PlayStation 3, it will set to take the gameplay standards on an all-new high. In fact, if you were to see the game, it looked nothing like the original game and definitely plays more like an entirely new title.

The best aspect about Prince of Persia is that it has changed the look of the PoP franchise but it does not take anything away from the gaming experience that has made this series a hit. Instead, it will infuse some new adventures and toss in a new powerful duo in an enhanced environment.

In this new Prince of Persia, it sets the hero up against a battle between good and darkness. The prince arrives in a world of myth and legend where he bears witness to an epic destruction being staged by Ahriman, the evil god. As he conquers the world, he spreads a fluid called Corruption that will attempt to kill anyone that isn't under his controls. Therefore, it is now the prince's duty in Prince of Persia to save the innocent people.

During the prince's quest in Prince of Persia, he will meet a young princess known as Elika. She will become the second legitimate character in this game, and probably a helpful company during combat as well, given Elika's unique combat abilities and power. It is then up to the prince to use her unique abilities wisely in order to save the rest of the world from Ahriman's evil plans.

If you were to examine the storyline for this new Prince of Persia game against other games in the franchise, you will find that the story creates a major impact in how gameplay is played out. Therefore, the same kind of emphasis on the story is given in Prince of Persia, in its aim of keeping up with the tradition of the classic series. But with this one, players have more freedom to explore and navigate the game however they like and you won't feel constricted at all.

Speaking of exploration, you can certainly do this with the new environments that are incorporated in Prince of Persia. The biggest change in this new game is probably the open-ended feel to it, as compared to previous games off the franchise. Nonetheless, it allowed gamers to explore multiple paths, which is brilliant with the new game design that enables gamers to utilize the physical environment that is present.

The overall world of Prince of Persia is broken up into several Corrupted areas that you can explore. Each of these areas have a Healing Ground, to which you and Elika must reach. Once you reach the Healing Ground, you have now saved that area and purified it from Corruption. As you go along the way, you will unlock power-ups and open up more areas for exploration. Again, you can unlock the areas or purify them as you go along and you need not do them in a specified order, which is really more exciting for the duo in Prince of Persia.

Acrobatics has always been an integral part in any Prince of Persia game, especially with this new one. This time, however, the prince has upgraded his acrobatic skills and you will notice that all combat action are much more fluid than the previous games. His acrobatic prowess makes it possible for him to jump from one location to another with tremendous ease. Other things he can do with the new acrobatic mechanics in Prince of Persia is to perform wall-run, swing from one pole to another, and improve on any abilities the prince has had.

Sadly though, the prince lacks access to the Dagger of Time, which allows time to be slowed down or rewind. This should be quite helpful in Prince of Persia knowing that the enemies have been given a boost as well. As compared to previous Prince of Persia games, enemies are more intelligent and are quite powerful as well. If you plan on winning the battle against them, you must do more than just mere button mashing and create sound strategies to defeat them.

The prince would have to be careful about two things in combat for Prince of Persia though: his health can easily dip whenever he takes a blow from the enemies, and too much reliance on Elika's capacity to help him in his quest. Combat in Prince of Persia is well above the rest since the prince is now equipped with a wide variety of skills and abilities such as powerful combos, new environments to take advantage, and Elika.

Speaking of combat skills, the prince has got quite a few enhancements in this new Prince of Persia game. The first and most obvious addition is not a weapon, but a person in the form of Elika. She is a legitimate character in this game and always accompanies the prince in his quest. The best part of all is that she is quite an advantage to have instead of proving a nuisance. In fact, she is equally athletic as the prince and have magic abilities that can help improve the prince's combat and acrobatic skills. Plus, she is immune to damage so you won't have to worry about taking care of her, in fact she'll find ways to reduce damage on the prince as much as possible.

Another useful weapon in Prince of Persia is the powerful gauntlet that does a variety of things. First, it can increase the prince's strength whether he is in combat or not. Plus, it also comes with some claws that make it possible to slide down vertical surfaces, and a good way to avoid death or damage. One last nice touch is the ability to utilize the environment in defeating enemies such as beating him against the wall or pushing him off a cliff to die.

The Prince of Persia franchise has always been known for its unforgiving level of difficulty and this new game has taken a few aspects of that and infused that with PoP. Overall too, the game looks totally different with a revamped visual mechanics. In fact, it no longer looks cartoony, as the original game does, and utilizes the cel-shaded style of graphics. It is safe to say that this new graphic system is more effective in rendering the action and it does feel more like a movie.

The visual distinction of this new Prince of Persia is just the topping to an overall promising game that will make you not want to stop playing.
